Broke Wing Angel got its start earlier than the rest of the songs on Blonde on Blue. Brent Spiess, creator and director of the movie Purple Toast (starring Calum Rennie) asked Chanan for a title soundtrack that he could use as a movie promo. As a sometimes frustrated film producer, Brent couldn’t at that time raise enough cash to go further on the movie. “It was an interesting story about a stripper fleeing from the Russian mafia, played by Milla Chernetsky (American Film Institute) who was a dead ringer for Kate Earl.” Listeners of this track can watch this promo, which because it didn’t raise the funds required for a feature movie - it became the music video for chanan. “There were some mighty fine love scenes and tussel scenes between milla and i that have since not yet left the editing of milla” for presentation to movie auditions, kind of along the likes of the stormy “scenes of a marriage” with chanan playing “steiner” and milla playing the protagonist heroine “angelika.” It was filmed at the stunning location of “Writing-on-Stone” Provincial Park of Alberta Canada, where they were somewhat hard-pressed to get the filming shot before the sun went down. (note: 'chanan is the orthodox catholic name that shane has subsequently chosen in his vocation as a catholic monk)
