The song Blonde on Blue refers to the distinctive navy blue uniforms worn by the flight attendants of United Airlines and the silver blonde hair of Chanan’s love interest at the time, one of two consecutive girlfriends who were flight attendants from America. The song describes the excitement and the impossibility of such an “arrivals and departure” relationship no doubt when entered into with the artist’s sensitivity. It is composed thus from the standpoint of a taxicab dreamer, somewhat like Harry Chapin’s doomed relationship with “she went off to find the footlights” while he is left behind getting high in his taxi.
